Spend a week being creative with mixed media artists Traci Bautista and DJ Pettitt. We’ve created an eclectic collage and painting workshop that combines the best of our techniques to create a beautiful one-of-a-kind art journal with FUSED collage covers and hand stitched bag! Come experience a unique workshop!

Day 1- flourished GRAFFITTI layers Learn a variety of techniques for fabric and paper to create pages and backgrounds for DJ’s Fused Book Covers in Day 2. You will create luscious paintings and collage layered with color, words, letterforms and symbols. Explore building layers of texture with stencils, stamped patterns and accents of written words/phrases. Create “graffiti” transfers and color-dyed crayon fabric patches. Take a trip to Kinko’s and learn to REVAMP your art. This workshop will be taught by Traci Bautista.
Day 2- Fused Book Covers Using papers and fabrics that you created with Traci, you will create several layered collage that combine Tar Gel, Molding Paste and acrylic paint. Learn to use a heat press to fuse a smooth print-like surface that will be used as book covers in the journal you will make on Day Three. Learn simple coloring and shading techniques to further enhance and add detail. This workshop will be taught by DJ Pettitt.
Day 3 –FIBERplay aRt Journal Create a funky art journal with fused book covers from DJ’s workshop on Day 2, painted backgrounds and fabric/paper patchwork collages. The journal is bound with a funky fiber spine that spills with strips of fabric, crocheted bits and explodes with found vintage beads, colorful baubles and buttons. Learn a variety fiber embellishing techniques to create FIBERlicious decorations! This workshop will be taught by Traci Bautista.
Day 4 –No Sew Journal Bag Create and paint a lightweight surface that is flexible and very durable, and then use it to make a no-sew bag to house your journal made with Traci. Learn simple painting techniques using washes and glazes, and paint a face (use pattern provided or paint from your own drawing), flowers, an abstract composition, or any combination of your choosing. Embellish the bag with hand stitching. No machine sewing required. This workshop will be taught by DJ Pettitt. See supply list from Day 2.
Day 5- ideas, inspiration and wrap up (optional for workshop participants) We will teach you a variety of idea jumpstarts, creative brainstorming and ways to be inspired. You can also put final touches on your journal and bag. This workshop will be co-taught by Traci and DJ.
